TCL has been in Spain for a short time, but in China it is one of the most important television manufacturers in the country. And the truth is that it is not surprising, since it has really interesting models. They are televisions that offer a technology very similar to the high-end models of other manufacturers, but with a more competitive price. A good example of this is the new TCL 6 Series, which comes with such interesting news as miniLED technology and the incorporation of a 120Hz panel compatible with VRR.
The new TCL Series 6 features a QLED panel, compatibility with all HDR formats, Dolby Atmos sound and a Roku TV system. The latter will be available in the United States, since it is a well-known system there. We understand that if these models arrive in Europe they will do so with Android TV instead. Let’s know a little better what the new TCL 6 Series televisions offer.
QLED, miniLED, Local Dimming and much more
TCL’s new TVs are in the mid-range by price, but use technologies that we see in higher-end models. Like Samsung, the Chinese manufacturer has opted for the QLED technology to improve color reproduction.
In addition, the new 6 Series models are equipped with a VA LCD panel with 4K resolution and local dimming with up to 240 zones (on the 75-inch model). It is quite an interesting figure for a mid-range model, but which, of course, is below the TCL 8 Series.
In addition to the Quantum Dots and the zone lighting system, TCL says it has used miniLED instead of standard LEDs on the backlight unit. The use of smaller LEDs allows the manufacturer to increase the number of dimming zones. However, it appears that the purpose of using miniLEDs this time around is to reduce power consumption and ensure that the TV maintains a relatively slim design even with a zone dimming system.
On the other hand, the TCL 6 Series features a panel that can operate up to 120 Hz. As confirmed by the manufacturer, one of the HDMI connectors will be compatible with this soft drink. Will also be Supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) to get more fluid in the games. However, we still don’t know if it will be a full HDMI 2.1.
As for HDR, the new 6 Series models will be compatible with HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision. They will also have sound Dolby Atmos, although the type has not been specified. Most likely, they are simply capable of transmitting the signal to external equipment, which will allow us to take advantage of the Atmos sound of platforms such as Netflix.
And as far as the operating system is concerned, for now we know that the United States will have the Roku. This is very popular in the USA, but we imagine that in Europe it will be replaced by Android TV.
The TCL 2020 Series 6 is already in the process of launching in the United States. Is available in 55, 65 and 75 inches, priced at 650, 900 and 1,400 dollars respectively.
New 5 Series models
The manufacturer has also taken the opportunity to announce the launch of new models of the Series 5. These have similar features to the Series 6, but somewhat trimmed. They keep using the QLED technology, but reduce the number of zones in the local dimming system considerably.
Are compatible with Dolby Vision, but the panel refresh rate stays at 60 Hz. The new 5 Series is available in 50, 55 and 65 inches with a price of 400, 450 and 630 dollars respectively.
