Qualcomm announces the new generation of its fast charging technology: that’s right Quick Charge 5, faster, more efficient and safer.
Fast charging technology has allowed us to worry a little less about the autonomy of smartphones. Faced with the limitations of revolutionizing battery compounds to last longer, the various manufacturers and main players in the sector have managed to create ultra-fast charging systems that allow us to continue our routine in a few minutes.
Chip maker Qualcomm first introduced its Quick Charge technology in 2013, and each generation of this fast-charging technology has ended up reaching millions upon millions of smartphones worldwide. Now it comes Quick Charge 5, and wants to consolidate itself as the fastest commercial solution that exists.
OPPO confirms its new 125W fast charge: the fastest in the world
OPPO will shortly present a new 125W fast charging system, the fastest in the world, capable of charging a mobile in 10 minutes.
Charge faster with Quick Charge 5
Qualcomm’s promises are clear: Quick Charge 5 will allow us to charge 50% of our mobile battery in just 5 minutes connected to the charger. 5 minutes, half battery. AND less than 15 minutes from 0% to 100% load. It’s that simple. Of course, there may be slight differences depending on the total battery capacity of each smartphone.
This new generation of its fast charge technology is based not only on improving speed, but also on battery efficiency and improving battery safety. To do this, they use their “Battery Saver” and “Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities” technologies to extend the life of the batteries and support their efficiency in each charge cycle.
To see in perspective how things have changed since 2013, Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 is 10 times faster than the first version and a 70% more efficient than QuickCharge 4.
The first Xiaomi with 100W fast charge will arrive soon
Xiaomi is preparing for the launch of its first 100W fast charge phone, which could arrive in August according to various media.
More efficiency and safety in loading processes
With Quick Charge 5 they want to create the fastest commercial fast charging platform in the world, achieving a charging power of up to 100W on a smartphone, with greater voltage protections and even, despite these improvements, the temperature reached by the devices during the quick charge process is lower. Up to 10ºC are achieved in QuickCharge 5.
Qualcomm’s launch is important because its technology reaches a huge range of brands and devices. To date, more than 1.2 billion mobiles, chargers, accessories of all kinds. In addition, this new generation is backward compatible with the previous ones.
When will it be available? Quick Charge 5 will start arriving on devices starting in the third quarter of 2020, first being compatible with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, 865 Plus processors and the future high-end SoCs from the manufacturer.
