Retailers who sell goods via Amazon have increased their share of the online platform’s sales in Germany during the Corona crisis. At the peak of the illnesses to date from March to May, according to the group, they accounted for 65.1 percent of the revenue at Amazon.de on Monday – in the same period last year it was 61.2 percent.
During the crisis, household goods, medical articles and products with high demand were temporarily prioritized at Amazon itself and at retailers who access the Group’s logistics. For retailers who had to close their brick-and-mortar stores, online channels became more important overall.
The relationship between Amazon and the retailers active on the Group’s platform has repeatedly come under the eye of competition watchdogs. Since July last year, the EU Commission has been officially investigating allegations that Amazon has misused its access to retailer data to displace retailers in lucrative business areas.
The company points out that $ 15 million was invested in infrastructure, personnel and services to support its sales partners last year. In the Corona crisis, she received additional advice – and customers were asked to shop online at small and medium-sized companies.
