On the one hand, the picture of the iPhone 12 is becoming clearer and, on the other hand, unexpected developments are again indicated. So Apple is planning a real surprise for the bargain hunters among buyers. Just a little more patience is required.
In autumn there will be a total of four new iPhones – two “normal” iPhone 12s with 5.4- and 6.1-inch displays and two Pro models with 6.1- and 6.7-inch displays each. What they all have in common: The new 5G cellular standard. But Apple may be planning another, fifth cell phone. This is the conclusion of the Apple experts from Wedbush Securities, as Business Insider reports. Messrs Daniel Ives, Strecker Backe and Ahmad Khalil want to know about that mysterious iPhone. What is it about, when should it come and how much will we have to pay for it? The experts’ answers only partially satisfy these important questions.
iPhone 12 without 5G: Cheaper LTE model in the Apple pipeline
According to the report, the “fifth model” will be an iPhone 12 without 5G technology. Apple is planning a variant of the new cell phone with the proven LTE standard alone. This would be a bit unusual at first, but perhaps not so unlikely in the end. According to the experts at Wedbush Securities, this variant should be much cheaper. Apple could therefore offer an attractive cost price for all those customers for whom 5G is not yet important enough. However, patience is required, because a performance is not expected until 2021, possibly around February of next year.
One thing is for sure, iOS 14 will be the new operating system for the new iPhones:
But there are still questions unanswered. Among other things, no specific price is currently being revealed. However, the writers of the report assume that the price of the 5G models will follow in the footsteps of the previous models of the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. Ergo: The new 4G model should then be cheaper than the current iPhone 11. This officially costs just under 800 euros at Apple. The display size of this model is also not revealed. However, one can assume that Apple will use the 5.4-inch model, since this will also be the cheapest version of the 5G variants.
It gets more angular, the new iPhone 12:
Apple’s variety of models continues to grow
But it is already clear: Apple is expanding the range of iPhone models more and more. The four 5G models of the iPhone 12 are already a novelty. Now a fifth model could be added. Another variant of the iPhone SE with a larger display was already being discussed for 2021. Ultimately, the customer can only be happy about so much choice. But patience is necessary, because the 5G models will appear late this year, as Apple recently confirmed.
