It’s official at last – Apple Pay will be available at Sparkasse in Germany later this summer. The implementation is particularly interesting in this step – the service is offered via the Girocard.
For a long time it was only rumors, since today it’s official – the Sparkasse has officially announced the launch of Apple Pay. On the company side, it says:
Whether in shops, in apps or on the web: With Apple Pay you can pay quickly, securely and confidentially with your iPhone and any Apple device that can be used for Apple Pay.
Sparkasse brings support for Girocard
Unlike most other banks, customers do not have to have a credit card with the Sparkasse here, instead a girocard is sufficient – at least that’s what the company says on its side. It is only in the small print that the details are available – actually it is a debit card. Other banks in many countries have been supporting this solution for some time. But be it – luckily, the Sparkasse will soon be on board too.
The most popular card in Germany – the girocard – can still be used this summer with Apple Pay. With Apple Pay and your Sparkassen-Card (debit card) you can make contactless and mobile payments at hundreds of thousands of terminals in shops in Germany.
