The Seiko SKX (or SKX007) is one of Seiko’s most popular watches and is often referred to as one of the most popular diving watches in the world.
The watch is considered an affordable diving watch – a great value given its high quality and water resistance (ISO 6425 and 200 m water resistance, which makes it qualified as a diving watch). The watch, released by the Japanese brand in 1996, followed the Seiko 7002, which was similar in appearance and features.
Seiko appears to have discontinued production of the SKX (although the company has not yet officially announced this). The watch is currently still available on the secondary market. However, if you’re looking for similar models, read on. Below are some of the best alternatives to the SKX007 (or the SKX009 with the same features but a different bezel – blue and red or Pepsi bezel).
Best Seiko SKX alternatives (SKX007 & SKX009)
When writing this list, we took note of the SKX’s main selling points: at least 200m water resistance, approximately 42.5mm in diameter, and the affordable price (you could find a $ 200 SKX, but prices have since risen to around $ 300 Seiko) ceased production) – a good deal considering the functions of the diving watch. Not all of the watches listed below have the exact dimensions and features, but all have close similarities to the SKX.

Then there’s the Prospex Samurai SRPB5, which doesn’t really look like the SKX, but is similar in terms of relative affordability. The Seiko Prospex Samurai SRPB51 was inspired by the launch of the 2004 brand, the Seiko Samurai (named after the hands shaped like swords).
This model is a bit bulky and runs with the Seiko 4R35 movement. The watch is made of stainless steel and has a unidirectional bezel, a screwed-in offset crown and a power reserve of 41 hours.
The watch also has a checkered dial that creates a textured look and offers good light reflection. The hands and markings are provided with Lumibrite for readability, and the red second hand gives the watch a splash of color. Seiko Prospex SLA021 (MM300)
See on Seiko | See on Amazon
The Seiko SLA021 is at the more expensive end of the Seiko spectrum. Although it looks similar to the SKX007, its features are far better, so the price is a bit high (price 3100 on the Seiko website).
This watch, which is a successor to the MM300 SBDX017, has a different depth rating than the SKX007-300m, which makes it a good watch for diving and saturation diving.
This watch runs on Seiko’s 8L35 caliber and has a stainless steel case and bezel, sapphire crystal and an anti-reflective crystal coating. The hands and indices have the Lumibrite function. A notable feature is the finish, which is done using the brand’s traditional Zaratsu polishing method used for the Grand Seiko line.
