BMW Connected is updated and already supports Car Key

If I tell my wife that we have to buy a BMW To be able to use Car Key, he kicks me out of the house, but not before spraying with gasoline and setting me on fire. So I will have to wait for the system to be implemented in the rest of the “most popular” brands.

The joke is understood, I suppose. I don’t think anyone (I know one who perhaps does…) choose one car model or another simply in case it can be opened with your iPhone or not. But it is good to think that this system in the future comes standard in all brands, such as the remote control, for example.

The German firm BMW has just updated its application BMW Connected and from now on it supports the function Apple Car Key. This means that from now on you can use your iPhone as a key for your compatible BMW, while enjoying maximum security and data protection. The digital car key on your compatible iPhone allows you to lock, unlock and even start your BMW in a comfortable and safe way.

If your iPhone runs out of batteryYou can unlock and start your vehicle for up to five hours. If you turn off the iPhone manually, the BMW digital key will only work once you turn the device back on.

To be able to use this system, you must buy a new BMW manufactured from the summer of 2020 and that is compatible with the BMW Digital Key (Not all models will be available in all markets).

Compatible cars and iPhones

This image opening a BMW with an iPhone is already a reality

In order to show off and teach your brother-in-law how you open your car with your iPhone, you will need a BMW 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, X5, X6, X7, X5M, X6M and Z4 series that has been manufactured from July 1, 2020.

As for the Apple device, (if you have the car, it would be the least problematic already) you will need an iPhone XR, XS or later, and for those who want to use a Apple Watch, must be Series 5 or later.

As I said at the beginning it will be a good system if it ends massively deploying in the future in other brands and models of cars on the market. All the vehicles of today are opened with remote control, and many of them no longer have a key, so it is not unreasonable to think that their implementation can be extended to many other brands.
