Corsair iCUE Nexus, review: a little genius

On July 14, the Corsair iCUE Nexus was launched, an accessory as curious as it is interesting, since basically allows us to add a touch screen to any compatible Corsair keyboard. If we do not have a compatible keyboard, nothing happens, the Corsair iCUE Nexus comes with a support base that allows us to use it as an external touch screen small format.

At the software level, the Corsair iCUE Nexus seamlessly integrates into the iCUE platform Corsair, and allows us to use a large number of custom screens with which we will have numerous control options in one touch. It is a very striking concept, and it is also very easy to use, since we can configure and adapt it to our needs in a few seconds, thanks to the simple interface that iCUE presents.

With this screen we can control various peripherals, display useful information from our PC and add a touch of class to our desk. The Corsair iCUE Nexus has a clear objective, to make life easier for us, and to achieve this it threatens to turn our keyboard into something truly unique.

Thanks to Corsair Spain I have had the opportunity to test the Corsair iCUE Nexus for more than a week, and today, finally, I am ready to tell you my impressions. I had many doubts about the potential of this peripheral, and also about its real utility, and the truth is that they have been totally resolved. Get comfortable, we start.

Corsair iCUE Nexus, first look

In the introduction we have made it quite clear what the Corsair iCUE Nexus is. As you can see in the attached images we are facing a small touch screen that connects via USB, and which is designed to integrate seamlessly into the base which is included in the box.

Corsair has combined hard matte black plastics and non-slip rubber at the base to achieve a sober, elegant and high-quality finish. The Corsair iCUE Nexus fits perfectly on any desktop, and the screen has a color border shiny black It not only creates a perfect contrast, but also fits perfectly with the top of the keyboard.

The quality of finishes is undoubted, in fact even the wiring it’s twisted to guarantee a long service life. Good job from Corsair in this regard.

In total we have three pieces that will allow us to assemble the Corsair iCUE Nexus on any compatible keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB MK.2, Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 Low Profile and K95 RGB Platinum XT. In my case I have a Corsair K70 RGB MK.2, so I was able to mount it without problem. The installation process is very simple, although we will delve into it in the next section.

If we do not have a compatible keyboard, nothing happens, we can use the screen in the included support base. Made the introductions, we are ready to enter to see the Specifications of the Corsair iCUE Nexus.

Corsair iCUE Nexus, our experience

The Corsair iCUE Nexus installation and configuration process is very simple. As we anticipate we have two options, we can mount it on the integrated base, which we could consider as the “default” installation if we do not have a compatible keyboard, or integrate it into its USB port if we have a Corsair K70 RGB MK.2, Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 Low Profile and K95 RGB Platinum XT.

To mount the Corsair iCUE Nexus in the included base we only have to plug the 5 cm braided USB cable on the base, fit the screen and you’re done. The base has a 1.8 meter USB cable (also braided) that will allow us to connect it without problems to a USB port on our motherboard.

By cons, if we are going to mount it on a keyboard we must be careful, since the process it’s so simple it can make us trust too much, and this could lead us to make mistakes. To get a perfect assembly follow these tips:

  • Take all the adapters out of the box and check which one fits your keyboard. Look at the part where the USB cable of your keyboard comes out, and try all of them until you are clear about which one you should use.
  • Each adapter has glue, which means that we have to remove the protective sheet and Carry out the gluing process with great care. Position the adapter well, and when you have it clear press for a few seconds.
  • Now we only have to mount the Corsair iCUE Nexus. Too easy, plug the USB cable into the extra outlet on your keyboard and insert the screen into the corresponding holders. Be careful and don’t do excessive force, since you could take off the adapter.

We already have the Corsair iCUE Nexus assembled. As we can see in the attached images looks great and gives a unique touch to any keyboard. I also think that Corsair has been totally correct with the position and the design, since it combines perfectly with the glossy black finish that we see in the area of the Corsair logo, and the inclination is fully balanced. This is important, since it allows us to visualize all the elements effortlessly, and facilitates interactions.

The last step would be to download, if we don’t have it, the latest version of Corsair iCUE software. It is completely free, and the download and installation process will not take more than a few minutes. Once we are done we will be ready to start enjoying the Corsair iCUE Nexus.

From an aesthetic point of view it looks great, of that there is no doubt, but what can we do with the Corsair iCUE Nexus? Many things, as we will see below:

  • Create macros and concrete actions that will allow us, for example, to run an application with a touch or go to a certain website.
  • Customize screens, icons, and widgets, and easily switch between the different screens that we have stored by sliding your finger from one side to the other.
  • Visualize critical aspects of our PC, such as CPU temperature, its workload, GPU temperature, status of motherboard fans and sensors, and much more.
  • Design and use your own icons and buttons, use shortcuts and switch between different screens with a single finger.
  • It integrates perfectly with other Corsair peripherals, which reinforces its value if we have more accessories from the brand, but it also offers everything a world of possibilities working independently.

As soon as you open iCUE we will find a wide variety of predefined screens with very useful functions that will allow us to get more out of our Corsair peripherals. For example, imagine you want to adjust the settings of your Corsair Virtuoso SE headphones, well, you can do it with a few simple touches through the Corsair iCUE Nexus, as you can see in the attached image, and the same applies to many other peripherals.

This is very useful, and very interesting, but what I liked most about the Corsair iCUE Nexus are its huge customization possibilities, and everything that allows us to see and do. We can create, in an effortless way and in a few minutes, sets of screens with six different actions totally customized and adapted to specific tasks, and switch between them by sliding your finger.

For example, if you are going to surf the Internet while listening to music, you can use a screen with six actions that allow you to control your headphones and access your favorite websites with one touch. By cons, if you are going to play a demanding title you can switch to a screen with six sections that will monitor CPU and GPU usage, as well as the temperatures and load faced by the fans and, in case you use liquid cooling, the rhythm of the water pump.

I have it very clear, the Corsair iCUE Nexus it’s a little genius. It is very easy to install, configure and use, it has a perfect response rate and with it we can do a lot of things, such as controlling and monitoring practically all the key aspects of a PC, creating shortcuts, macros and specific functions, and play with advantage in some titles like Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.

Endnotes: truly useful innovation

Corsair iCUE Nexus

The Corsair iCUE Nexus will not leave anyone indifferent. Its attractive design and quality of finishes make it a small object of desire, and when integrated into a compatible keyboard the result is simply fantastic.

Whether we are going to use it mounted on its base or integrated into a keyboard, we will enjoy a very solid experience, well resolved and accompanied by a quality of materials that show, by themselves, that the Corsair iCUE Nexus and all its accessories they are made to last.

Corsair iCUE Nexus, review: a little genius 76

Its integration with iCUE software is seamless, and the same applies to the entire Corsair peripheral ecosystem. We can access a set of screens and predefined functions, but the Corsair iCUE Nexus unleashes its true potential when we get to customize it, a process that, luckily, it is very easy and very rewarding.

The range of possibilities it offers is, as we have said, very wide, we can adapt it without problems to numerous scenarios and types of use, and the response and performance it offers at all times is excellent. The consumption of resources is, in addition, very balanced, since with all the peripherals that you can see in the attached images it registers an average use of the CPU of between 4% and 8%.

The sharpness and color rendering who gets the screen are very good, and looks smooth even under very bright lighting, though their viewing angles are somewhat reduced. A very interesting peripheral that will delight any user, and that even the most demanding will fall in love with.

Final assessment

The Corsair iCUE Nexus will not leave anyone indifferent. Its attractive design and its quality of finishes make it a small object of desire, and when integrated into a compatible keyboard the result is simply fantastic. A peripheral that creates value by offering real utility. Recommendable.
