The DFB Cup final is usually one of the quota hits of the year. Up to 14 million have been there in recent years – everything is different in the Corona year.

A different date, no fans in the stadium and an expected result: The DFB Cup final, postponed by six weeks in the Corona year, attracted most viewers to the television on Saturday – but experienced a major loss compared to previous years. 7.01 million viewers (26.6 percent) saw the first from 8 p.m. how Bayern Munich snatched the next title against Bayer Leverkusen (4-2) and became the DFB Cup winner for the 20th time. In addition, there were another 440,000 spectators who watched the Cup final at Sky, as the industry service “DWDL” reported on Sunday.

Because of the Corona crisis, the Cup final as well as the Bundesliga games were played without spectators. In recent years, around ten million have tuned in to see the final of the DFB Cup, which traditionally takes place in late May. Four years ago at Bayern against Borussia Dortmund it was almost 14 million.

The cup final of the soccer women on Saturday (4.45 p.m. / ARD) between champions VfL Wolfsburg and SGS Essen, which also took place in empty seats, saw 2.65 million (18.2 percent market share) in the afternoon. The Wolfsburg women won 4: 2 (3: 3, 3: 3, 1: 2) on penalties.
