Far Cry 6, Assassin's Creed Valhalla and more

Due to the cancellation of major events such as the summer E3 in Los Angeles, and in line with what many developers were already doing, yesterday Ubisoft held its first 100% digital event, Ubisoft Forward, in which it revealed details, trailers and dates about its upcoming games featuring the world premiere of the first trailer for FarCry 6, the first gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, a new trailer and date for Watch Dogs: Legions, the arrival of the open beta of Hyper scape, and other news.

Although this time we are going to focus on the company’s big bets, since as Ubisoft itself has advanced, they plan to hold another Ubisoft Forward event later this year.

FarCry 6

After the little teaser on Friday, finally Ubisoft officially announced Far Cry 6, the next installment of his popular first person shooter.

Controlling Dani Rojas, we will move to the tropical island of Yara, where we will try to stop the precarious regime of Castillo, a villain played by Giancarlo Esposito (known for his recent roles in Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian) through an intense story full of plenty of action and the characteristic touch of humor of the saga. Although this will not take away for us to maintain the much-loved freedom of exploration and side missions to increase the gameplay.

Thus, this advance has also confirmed the return of some details present in its predecessors Far Cry 5 and Far Cry New Dawn, with the ability to create a customizable character, which will include, in addition to aesthetic changes, the possibility of experiencing happiness as a man or woman; or as reported from GameSpot, the return of a voice dubbing for our protagonist.

Finally, as Ubisoft itself has assured, FarCry 6 will offer us a huge number of weapons at our disposal, and a complementary system that will allow us recruit human and animal allies, as in Far Cry 5, with novelties as curious as interesting as Chorizo, the little dachshund.

Far Cry 6 will be available next February 18, 2021 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Google’s Stadia cloud gaming service, as well as both next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

We have also been able to know a little more in depth the new installment of Assassin’s Creed, with the first real gameplay images, and a good amount of news and dynamics that will include the next title.

Just like in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, we can choose again whether to play as a woman or a man, with a game that will place exploration and decision-making at the center of the players’ experience. So, as it could not be otherwise given its Viking theme, one of the main focuses of the game will be fighting, which in addition to having a much more brutal style, will allow us to carry out new group activities such as looting and assaults on cities, leading our own group of warriors.

And it is that all you come that we are collecting, we can reinvest in the improvement and expansion of our refuge, through which we can improve our army and equipment, and take control over the allies and enemies present during the Viking deed and conquest of Britain.

Although this added brutality does not imply that we do not have the classic stealth dynamics that have so characterized the saga, with many moments that will require our expertise to go unnoticed, or the indispensable presence of the Hidden Leaf.

Finally, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be characterized as one of the richest installments to date, with an enormous amount of scenarios and historical references of the cultures present in the British Isles, as well as the greatest variety of enemies ever seen in Assassin’s Creed.

Dated to next November 17, 2020, and already available for reservation on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, from Ubisoft took advantage of the occasion to point out that the game “will come soon” to the next generation consoles.

I don’t know

Watch Dogs: Legions

From the moment Ubisoft started offering Watch Dogs 2 for free, we knew that Watch Dogs: Legions would be in the sights of Ubisoft Forward; Although without a doubt we have been wanting more.

With a new preview of the game as a gameplay, we see again confiramdos some of the details and new mechanics announced previously, with a plot that will take place in a dystopian city of London marked by «A post-Brexit where society, politicians and technology have changed and altered London’s fortunes», and the big change of being able to recruit any NPC in the game as a playable character.

And the only real surprise was the announcement of the release date of Watch Dogs: Legion, which will be released next October 29 on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia. Although again Ubisoft wanted to anticipate that the game “will arrive soon” to the next generation consoles.

Hyper scape

The recently announced Urban Battle Royale in first person and free-to-play, makes an open beta available to Uplay available to PC gamers worldwide. We find a game that draws directly from the Battle Royale concept in its most classic form, and combines it with a totally futuristic setting, very fast and frantic action and important adjustments that are focused on preventing the fighting from going on forever.

In addition, to the contents previously available for the Technical Test (its closed beta) are added a new weapon, a new hacking method, a new Battle Pass with 30 additional levels, as well as 3 new modes and customization options in the in-game store. Some lines that seem to point to a model of microtransactions that, although in the norm within this genre, perhaps it is too protagonist.

Other news and announcements from Ubisoft Forward

While the big four games caught the general attention of the event, Ubisoft also took the opportunity to announce the arrival of several new titles and mobile adaptations:

  • Brawlhalla, the epic free platform game where players fight for glory in the halls of Valhalla, makes the leap to mobiles, and does so with a matchmaking cross platform, and the option already available for pre-registration.
  • Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad, a new installment for mobiles that will offer a crossover of the Tom Clancy’s games, and that will be available from today through its pre-registration.
  • Might and Magic Era of Chaos, a new mobile game with great challenges for fans of tactical RPGs and PVE and PVP content, now available for iOS and Android users.

Ubisoft’s internal problems

Ubisoft Forward comes at a difficult time for the company: Reports of a widespread toxic culture at Ubisoft have recently come to light amid multiple malpractice allegations against Ubisoft employees. Just yesterday, three prominent executives left Ubisoft, bringing the total to four exits (and an additional suspension) since the allegations were made public.

In a published tweet just a few hours before the event started, Ubisoft recognized the challenges facing the company, but said he will not discuss them during the digital event as it is an event previously recorded.

«Because all content has been prerecorded, we wanted to acknowledge that the issues we are currently addressing will not be addressed directly in the program“Stated Yves Guillemot, CEO of the company, who promised radical changes in the company in a letter sent to employees on July 2, including the appointment of a head of work culture and the creation of a position to a head of diversity.
