The European premier league in club football turns on the turbo from today: In Corona mode, the quarter and semi-finals of the competition are decided by a single encounter.

This week it will be exciting in several ways: Since the UEFA Champions League could not be decided in spring as usual in the context of the corona pandemic, different competition conditions now apply in the exceptional procedure. No home advantage, no back and forth games, no counting on away goals – each of the upcoming games has the character of a final.

For the outsider Atalanta Bergamo from Lombardy in northern Italy, who today has to face Paris St. Germain in the first quarter-finals, maybe even an advantage. At least that is how Bayern boss Karlheinz Rummenigge sees it, who can gain a lot from the inevitable final mode of the Champions League: The statistics, as the former star striker said to the BILD newspaper, would bring decisive advantages for the actually stronger team in the usual competitive mode. In addition to a significantly increased tension in the knockout mode, the probability of surprising pieces of hussar by the weaker clubs is to be placed higher – an attractive idea for Rummenigge.

The test to the example is available today at sports streaming service DAZN to see live: There the game between Atalanta Bergamo and Paris St. Germain around 9 p.m. kicked off.
