Fortnite disappears from the App Store after introducing a payment system that bypasses Apple

Fortnite

In the middle of the afternoon, Spanish time, Epic Games added a new function in both the Fortnite application for iOS and Android, a function that allowed buy turkeys directly from Epic Games without the App Store keeping its corresponding 30%, a move that clearly started the war between the two companies.

Obviously, the one who had the most to lose was Epic Games, since a few minutes ago, Apple has removed the Fortnite app from the App Store. Fortunately, if you already had the application installed, you can continue playing without any problems.

Apple claims that Epic Games has deliberately violated Apple Store guidelines when launching a function that is not allowed in the application. Apple Store rules require that digital purchases of in-app digital goods have to share 30% with the App Store.

The direct payments feature that Epic Games had introduced clearly violated the rules. The operation was and is very simple, since is still available to all those users who have the application installed and that it allowed us to save the commission that Apple keeps.

When accessing the store to buy turkeys, the store shows us the prices without Apple’s commission:

  • 1000 turkeys – 7.99 euros
  • 2,800 turkeys – 19.99 euros
  • 5,000 turkeys – 31.99 euros
  • 13,500 turkeys – 70.99 euros

Turkey prices paying through the App Store

  • 1000 turkeys – 10.99 euros
  • 2,800 turkeys – 27.99 euros
  • 5,000 turkeys – € 43.99
  • 13,500 turkeys – 109.99 euros

Fortnite offers through two payment methods:

  • Direct payment to Epic
  • Apple App Store.

Many believe that Epic Games has made this move consciously as a Intentional move to draw attention to App Store policy. If we take into account that Fortnite is one of the most popular games in the world of video games, the company has bet very hard.

You have to take advantage of the offer

If you were saving to buy turkeys from Epic Games, Now is the time, since the savings are considerable, especially when the number of turkeys is higher.

At the moment Epic Games has not commented on the matter, but it is most likely that it will do so in a few hours so we do not know when the app will return to the App Store.
