Germany is participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 2020. Kika, NDR and ZDF are now looking for young talents between the ages of nine and 14 to represent Germany in the music competition that will take place in Warsaw at the end of November. The junior version of the ESC has been organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) since 2003.

“I am extremely happy that we managed to get Germany involved in this major European song contest and to offer it through Kika. With NDR and ZDF, we have found a wonderful way of creative cooperation, in which all partners can contribute in an ideal way. ”, Said Kika program manager Dr. Astrid Plenk.

Call from today, July 8: ZDF is already producing the youth composition competition “Your Song” for the children’s channel in season 13 – together with Kika and NDR, an interpreter is now being sought for the Germany debut at the Junior ESC. From now on, nine to 14 year old talents can apply online. Application deadline on kika.de is July 31. All further information can be found there and on eurovision.de.

“For the composition of the title song, ZDF was able to win last year’s ‘Your Song’ finalist Levent Geiger, who also accompanies the casting and is on hand to assist the young artist until the big show in Warsaw. We are also accompanying this exciting journey with a two-part documentary, ”says Michael Stumpf, head of the ZDF main editorial office for children and young people.

“Since 1996, the NDR has been the lead broadcaster for German participation in the ESC. It is fantastic that we are now holding the junior contest together with Kika and ZDF for the first time. This year’s motto ‘Move the World’ has signal strength and encourages children to actively shape their world. It will therefore also play a role in the music video that we produce, ”said Ole Kampowski, head of the children’s and youth editorial team at NDR.

The 18th Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held on November 29 in Warsaw by the Polish broadcaster TVP and broadcast live at Kika from 5 p.m. Children between the ages of nine and 14 can apply online until July 31.
