Hollow Knight: Silksong release date, rumors and news

Hollow Knight: Silksong release date

Originally intended as a DLC expansion for the original Hollow Knight, after the fantastic success of the first game and building a sizeable cult following, Team Cherry decided instead to expand the scope of Silksong and instead convert it to a full-size sequel. When they first announced this decision, it was their explanation:

“Almost from the beginning, Hornet’s adventure was supposed to take place in a new country, but when we plunged in, it quickly became too big and unique to remain a DLC as originally planned. We know the wait will take a little longer, but we think the last fresh world you can explore is worth it. “

They also promised their 2158 Kickstarter supporters that although Silksong had expanded its scope to be a full sequel rather than just an additional DLC for the base game, they would keep their promise to offer it to their supporters at an additional cost.

As for the exact release date of Silksong, Team Cherry has been pretty tense and has chosen not to say anything, rather than providing a release date that they can’t keep.

“Thank you to everyone who asked, and we’re sorry that we don’t have anything meaningful to say yet. For Silksong, the cherry season is on, which means both” when it’s done “and” when it’s the quality and that Scope of Hollow Knight equals “. You know, we’ll talk about a release date if we’re 100% sure we can make it. The last thing we want to do is make promises just to see how things slide. Right now we’re going to continue stuffing all kinds of strange creatures and surprises in Silksong. We can’t wait for you all to play it. “

The original game started out as a Game Jam prototype that was developed in August 2013 before being released as a commercial game in February 2017. They then worked on various game updates and console versions before moving on to Silksong. To the best of our knowledge, Team Cherry is still only a three-person operation, at least in terms of full-time employees. Without knowing the exact scale of Silksong, it is difficult to estimate how long the development could take, but we will certainly look for more information as it becomes available.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Trailers

We had the first announcement trailer where we saw Silksong in action for the first time and first heard the news that it was being expanded to a full game and not just DLC.

We also received an expanded gameplay demo from E3 during one of Nintendo’s Treehouse Live streams. This shows us 20 minutes early footage of the game being played.

Hollow Knight: Silksong gameplay

This big change between Silksong and the original game is a new protagonist. In Silksong, you play as Hornet, who appeared in the original game but wasn’t a playable character. She has a subtly different trait than The Knight and is more mobile and acrobatic.

The same Metroidvania structure is back and the same focus on exploration and platform is returning. Great emphasis is also placed on beautifully drawn environments that create excitement and atmosphere.

Hollow Knight: Silksong minimum and recommended specifications

Hollow Knight is a great game, but it doesn’t do anything that places particularly high demands on the hardware. It is a game that should be playable on any reasonably modern PC.
As would have been expected from this type of iterative sequel, the minimum and recommended specifications are identical to the original game. If you were able to play Hollow Knight, you should have no trouble running the sequel.

Last word

It is not entirely clear when we will hear news about Hollow Knight: Silksong next time. The game is started on PC and switch first. Given Team Cherry’s strong relationship with Nintendo after the success of the first game on Switch, it may be possible that the next time we hear about Silksong, some kind of Nintendo showcase will take place. Maybe another Nintendo Indie World Showcase, whose live streaming video highlights indie titles that come on your system. We get about two of them a year, even though they don’t have a predictable schedule.

We’ll keep you up to date with the latest news on Silksong’s release date. The Steam page is already active if you want to add it to the wish list.
