Apple does not offer a standard solution block ads in apps and games on iPhone. It also regularly changes its policy and tries to prevent third-party apps from offering system-wide ad blocking in iOS 13. But don’t worry because here are a few ways to effectively Block ads in games or apps on iPhone and iPad.
Method # 1. Block game ads by disabling Wi-Fi and mobile data
The ads within an app depend on a data connection to be delivered. Without a data network, the code in the app cannot retrieve and display the ads. This leads to two interesting situations.
First, most apps stop showing ads completely when there is no data network. Second, in some cases, you will see a large block of filled / empty rectangle in the places where the ad typically appears.
Overall, this is an easy and quick way to block in-game ads on your iPhone. Disabling the internet also pauses notifications that interfere with your gameplay.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and cellular data from the Control Center. Or open the settings app on your iPhone and tap Wifi. Turn the switch off. Now repeat the same process for Mobile data.
- Force restart the game (or the app). On the iPhone with Face ID, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold. Double click on iPhone with Home button quickly to see all open apps. Now, drag the game card up to force close it.
- Open the game again after a few seconds. Since internet connectivity is disabled, you will not see any ads.
This was an easy way to disable in-game ads on iOS devices. Another quick method is enable airplane mode on your iPhone. You can use the Settings app or Control Center for this.
Of course, by following the above methods, you will also be off-the-grid on WhatsApp, Facebook, iMessage, Skype, Mail and even iCloud. In short, every app that depends on the data network is temporarily stopped. In airplane mode, you cannot receive calls and text messages.
So, is there a way to disable internet connection for just the game (or certain app) and have net connectivity for the rest of the iPhone? Well, there is a solution.
Method # 2. Turn off the Internet for the specific game
Let’s say you’re waiting for an important call or text message and want to play an ad-free game in the meantime! This is where this smart solution comes in.
- Of the Control center or Settings app and tap Wifi.
- Turn the switch OFF for Wifi.
- Then in the Settings tap on Mobile. Make sure the switch is in front Mobile data is on.
- Scroll down and find the special under CELLULAR DATA game (or app). To do this, turn the switch OFF game.
- Force close game app and restart after a few seconds.
When you play this game, there will be no ads, because there is no WiFi and the mobile data connection for the respective app is turned off.
The rest of the apps and services on your iPhone have an internet connection via mobile data Xpera Group. This will ensure no ads in that game, but normal phone, iMessage, WhatsApp notifications, emails, etc. operation.
Note: You may not see all games in Step 3 above.
Method # 3. Use AdGuard Pro to block ads in games and apps
AdGuard is a popular and efficient ad blocker for other platforms. This is my favorite ad blocker in Chrome. However, it was a bumpy ride for AdGurad on iOS. Because of Apple’s guidelines, they’ve seen ups and downs, to the point that their app was removed from the App Store for about a year! But since 2019 it is back!
The free version of AdGuard limits ads and tracking only within Safari. But the Pro version ($ 1.99) claims to do more and offers system-wide ad blocking for apps and games.
That’s all, buddy!
You can also give a chance to VPN apps that have system-wide adblocking. Such apps are common across all platforms, but hard to find for iOS due to Apple’s strict App Store policies.
Finally, you can give Weblock and AdBlock a try. These are paid apps, so continue after personal security. Sometimes these apps work, but with changes to the App Store guidelines, they stop working and can even be removed from the store.
So make sure you contact the app developer and don’t buy the app until you are satisfied. A quick way to reach an app developer is to scroll to the app description and tap Application support. It will take you to the official website where you can email them.
Didn’t you like the app even after the developer insured you? Here’s how to request a refund from Apple.
