iPad dominates tablet market – but a China manufacturer is growing surprisingly

A few days ago, Apple burst the worst fears of many observers in the air and documented a surprisingly positive quarter in the midst of the Corona crisis, now there are concrete figures for the iPad. But not only Apple’s tablet is enjoying increasing popularity.

iPad: Apple continues to dominate the tablet market

It was a surprise few analysts had expected. Apple’s latest quarterly figures showed that the iPhone manufacturer can deliver good results despite closed Apple stores and financial insecurity for many people. The company had positive news in all areas. This also includes the iPad, which had to go through a critical phase a few years ago.

For some time now, Apple’s quarterly figures have lacked precise sales figures or deliveries of iPhone, iPad and Co. It has therefore been up to market observers and analysts to shed some light on this. These analysts also include Canalys, who, as the MacRumors report says, released tablet shipments in Q2 2020.

Looking at the numbers, it becomes clear that Apple’s iPad continues to dominate the tablet market. The company reported revenue of approximately $ 6.6 billion – from the tablet alone. According to Canalys, this corresponds to around 14.25 million iPads shipped. This corresponds to growth of almost 20 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The competition from Samsung, Huawei, Amazon and Lenovo is also lagging behind in the second quarter of 2020.

In one point, however, Canalys’ statistics show a setback for Apple: The global market share of iPads shrank from 40 to 38 percent. Although Apple was able to deliver significantly more iPads, the competition looked just a little bit better.

Samsung’s annual growth was around 40 percent, which means around 7 million tablets shipped. Huawei even increased by 44.5 percent and was able to deliver around 4.8 million tablets. Amazon followed with 3.16 million and Lenovo with 2.8 million devices. The growth compared to the same quarter of the previous year was 37.1 and 52.9 percent. Lenovo surprises as a Chinese manufacturer.

So it remains exciting in the tablet area. According to the rumor mill, various new tablets from Apple await us in the coming months. These are mainly located in the lower price segment and could therefore attract many new buyers. Not to be forgotten is the upcoming presentation of the Galaxy Tab S7.
