One of the best budget routers of 2020, well designed, Premium look, cheap, reliable, full of functions, comes under $ 100I’m talking about that TP-Link Archer A7.
For and against:
What I like:
- The A7 archer supports both IPv4 and IPv6 Internet security protocols.
- Setting up the router is very simple and straightforward.
- Its stable, consistent and reliable connection in the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz band.
- A wide range of connectivity options and compatibility with Alexa.
- Connection of several devices simultaneously up to 50.
What I don’t do:
- Its USB 2.0 port.
The Tp-Link Archer A7 is a pocket-friendly dual-band router for under $ 100. With the connectivity of four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, it contains three external antennas with high gain. It is a standard wireless router with alternating current and theoretically offers a combined maximum speed of up to 1.7 Gbit / s.
As a dual-band router, its 2.4 GHz band delivers 450 Mbit / s and the 5 GHz band reaches up to 1300 Mbit / s. The range of the router is very impressive for its price and offers excellent WiFi coverage of up to 2,500 square feet.
Design: The TP-Link Archer A7
Like other TP-Link routers, the Archer A7 shares the same black body that carries three external, non-removable antennas. These antennas can be adjusted in any direction for a better range. The overall design seems a bit dated, but not that impressive. However, it feels very reliable and of high quality. It has an array of LED lights on the front.
If you want to mount the router, the router offers mounting brackets with which you can hang it up at the desired location. This way you can save space on your desk.
The router measures 1.3 × 9.6 × 6.4 (HWD). Better take it as a compact unit. There is a WPS button, a reset button and an on / off button on the back of the router. You also have four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports that you can use to establish multiple cable connections at the same time. You also get a USB 2.0 port and a WAN port. However, the archer a7 lacks a faster USB 3.0 connection.

On the other hand, it is equipped with a decent processor – 750 MHz, Qualcomm QCA9563 chipset. It also consists of 16 MB flash memory and 128 GB RAM on board. The hardware mentioned is suitable for medium-heavy tasks, but not for heavy users who are looking for games. Try TP-Link Archer A9 instead.
Setup & software: the Archer A7 router
It doesn’t take long to install the Archer A7. Even it can be fully set up in minutes. Many thanks to TP-Link for offering apps – Android and IOS – as well as for the web-based installation. However, I used the app for the whole process and it took about five minutes.
In other words, there is no doubt that the router is painless to set up and manage. In addition, their interfaces are easy to navigate. Both contain different settings for different functions and controls.
Performance: Tp-Link Archer A7
The performance of around $ 60 is impressive for Archer A7. As a dual-band router, both bands work right up to the mark and offer theoretical speeds of up to 1.7 Gbit / s. However, it is difficult for the router to show you these numbers in the real world. In addition, when testing the A7, I had no problems such as poor WiFi and signal drops.
Security: Archer A7
The security of the router is good for the price. It contains all types of Internet WLAN encryption, e.g. B. WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA / WPA2-Enterprise (802.1x).
There is also a wide range of network security, including SPI firewall, IP and MAC binding, access control and app layer gateway. The Archer A7 offers two separate guest networks: one for the 5 GHz band and one for the 2.4 GHz band.
Check out the router’s performance chart.
In the 2.4 GHz band:
|position||Ring||Down speed||Up speed|
|Main room (10 feet)||26ms||89.05 Mbit / s||17.03 Mbit / s|
|Storage room (30 feet)||21ms||22 Mbit / s||16.68 Mbit / s|
|Back yard (40 feet)||10ms||12.09 Mbit / s||12.88 Mbit / s|
In the 5 GHz band:
|position||Ring||Down speed||Up speed|
|Main room (10 feet)||13ms||89.05 Mbit / s||17.03 Mbit / s|
|Storage room (30 feet)||12ms||189.05 Mbit / s||16.68 Mbit / s|
|Back yard (40 feet)||12ms||36.09 Mbit / s||34.88 Mbit / s|
In my test phase, the Archer A7 did a great job. It’s worth buying for the price it carries. A couple of remarkable things. For example,
- A reliable connection for multiple devices without sacrificing performance.
- Overall, the WiFi coverage was excellent without the range decreasing.
- It delivered constant speeds in the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands.
- Somehow it managed to cover up to 1200 sq. Ft provide.
However, some things could have improved, for example the USB 2.0 port. It wasn’t as quick as expected, but the job was done.
The overall performance of the router is excellent. If you’re looking for an affordable, budget-friendly router for small to medium-sized households, it’s worth the money. You can buy it without hesitation.
