The latest product of the partnership between the Lego Group and Nintendo is an interactive model of the 80s console NES. In a way, a whole Super Mario level can be played on it.
For fans of Super Mario and Co .: The Lego Group has announced a new building set for August: the so-called Lego Nintendo Entertainment System. The model console can even “bring a certain Lego figure to life”. More Lego Super Mario sets will follow.
The construction set includes a buildable console with cable and plug as well as a retro-style television set made of Lego bricks from the 1980s, on the screen of which a small, flat 8-bit Super Mario figure can be seen. With an additional action block from the Lego Super Mario starter set, this figure can be scanned so that it reacts to enemies, obstacles and power-ups with sound recorders in the same way as the Super Mario Bros. video game.
“Super Mario has been a popular figure in the gaming world for over 30 years,” said Maarten Simons, chief designer of the new Lego Nintendo Entertainment System. “Many adults still like to remember the moment they saw Mario bounce across the small screen for the first time – even if the graphics were much simpler then than they are today. With the Lego Nintendo Entertainment System we give you the opportunity to indulge in this nostalgia. By assembling one of the most popular consoles, you can meet the Super Mario from your childhood – and maybe even share this special gaming experience of days gone by with your own children. ”
The Lego Group and Nintendo announced their cooperation earlier this year and activated the Lego Super Mario universe with the Lego Super Mario starter pack, so to speak. This set includes a buildable Lego Mario figure that reacts differently to movement, colors and the action bricks.
A series of power-up sets followed in May and these were supplemented in June with the announcement of further expansion sets and collectible figure sets. The expansion sets, for example, will soon be available Mario’s house and Yoshi or Desert Pokey. The total of ten expansion sets range in price from just under 20 euros to just under 98 euros for Bowser’s fortress.
The Lego Nintendo Entertainment System will be available in stores and on the website for € 224.19 from August 1st. From 2021 it can also be purchased from all other retailers. The entire Lego Super Mario product range will also be available in stores, on the website and in stores from August 1st.
