The media group RTL Germany wants to expand its program on all channels in the middle of the corona crisis.

“You could have expected that our program diversity would decrease due to the Corona crisis and that we would lose program bandwidth due to production. The opposite is correct, ”said Managing Director Content & Brands of the media group, Stephan Schäfer, of the German Press Agency. “The variety will be greater than ever.”

In the case of in-house productions, the station RTL is now setting a record, emphasized Schäfer. “We now produce 91 percent local content in entertainment and information with our partners. That means: we manage to show 91 percent of our own productions realized here. ”At Vox, the value is currently 66 percent. “We want to be the ones in Germany who are closest to their audience.” According to the RTL Germany media group, it invests around one billion euros annually in the creation and production of its own content.

RTL’s strategy of investing in the TV Now streaming platform continues. “TV Now is a strategic growth project. We will massively expand the range of our streaming service, ”said Schäfer.

This program content is planned for the upcoming TV season: RTL is banking on a feature film about Boris Becker. The film “Boris Becker: His way to Wimbledon” shows the sports history of the German tennis legend. In the music show series “Big Performance – Who’s the Star in the Star?” Celebrities slip into the role of their favorite music legends. In addition, RTL will broadcast the wedding ceremony of pop star Michael Wendler and his Laura live in autumn – if the corona situation allows it.

At the Vox broadcaster, designer Guido Maria Kretschmer can be seen in a new show alongside the existing “Shopping Queen” format: “Guidos Deko Queen”. As in the other show, Kretschmer has a motto. Two candidates compete against each other and have to implement the motto within a set time frame.

Eleven new series will be shown in the fiction area on the TV Now streaming platform. Among them is the series “Faith”, in which the writer Ferdinand von Schirach wrote the screenplays. In addition, Iris Berben and Heiner Lauterbach can be seen in the series “You don’t die among friends”.

The RTL Germany media group includes eight free TV channels – including RTL, Vox and N-TV -, four pay TV channels and the streaming service TV Now. The media group is part of the RTL Group, which is part of the Bertelsmann Group and is based in Luxembourg.
