Microsoft and Samsung will work together even more closely in the future. The two companies are bringing the Windows 10 operating system even closer together with smartphones from the South Korean manufacturer, making it possible to run Android apps on a Windows 10 device. Even more is possible in the future.

Microsoft and Samsung: Android apps on Windows 10

Microsoft has been offering an application called “Your Phone” for a long time. This allows you to connect to an Android phone from a Windows 10 computer and perform some functions. For example, notifications can be displayed directly on the PC. Microsoft has worked with Samsung to expand the possibilities. With the newly introduced Samsung Galaxy Note 20, you can also run Android apps in windows directly on the PC in the future. For this purpose, Samsung users should be shown a selection of apps in the “Your Phone” application, which can then be executed in individual windows. This then works as follows:

Initially, this should only work with an Android app, but by the end of the year you will be able to run several apps simultaneously on a Windows 10 device from a Samsung mobile phone. For example, you could use WhatsApp, set Instagram and set a timer directly in the clock app on your mobile phone at the same time. The possibilities are many. The aim is to bring Android and Windows 10 even closer and to connect the two operating systems more deeply. It remains to be seen whether other manufacturers will follow suit. Microsoft and Samsung have been working closely together for some time.

Android apps on Windows

There are already ways to start Android apps under Windows. BlueStacks installs an Android in a virtual environment, on which apps can then be used. But that is different from what Microsoft and Samsung are implementing. It will be interesting to see if the two companies will eventually manage to build an ecosystem similar to that of Apple’s devices.
