Sony recently revealed what “old” hardware will still be usable with the PS5. There was a lot of good news, but pretty bad news.
In a blog post, Sony explained which hardware of the predecessor will be compatible with the PlayStation 5. Much of the old hardware will still work on the PS5, unfortunately there is just one a limitation for the DualShock 4.
First the good news, the hardware below is too still usable with the PS5 and its games:
- Officially licensed steering wheels, arcade sticks and flight sticks
- Gold and platinum edition wireless headsets
- Third-party headsets with USB or audio connection
- PS Move controller and PS VR target controller
The DualShock 4 and the official third-party gamepads can be connected to the PS5, but only work with PS4 games. The DualShock 4 is not compatible with PS5 games. Sony bases this decision on the fact that they want the player to be able to use the PS5 games on the new platform with all the innovations, including those of the new controller.
But that also means that to play PS5 games together on one console, it is absolutely necessary to buy another DualSense controller.
