Mysterious minimalist horror game 'Mundaun' announced

With a minimalist visual presentation and an expressive, sepia-soaked graphic, this announcement trailer is pretty eye-catching for Mundaun. This horror game, presented by Geoff Keighley as part of the nebulous Summer Game Fest series of video game marketing events, emphasizes the mystery of the unknown, with the trailer suggesting a sound rather than explaining exactly what the game is about.

We can see the mountainous area where everything is covered with snow. There is an unusual feeling when we switch between scenes of intense isolation, maybe even more unpleasant scenes of different characters and creatures that come very close and personal. The developers describe the game as follows:

“Mundaun is a lovingly hand-drawn horror story in a dark, remote valley in the Alps. Explore different areas full of secrets to uncover them, survive enemy encounters, drive vehicles, fill your inventory and solve a variety of handmade puzzles. “

Maybe fans of horror games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Outlast and Alien Isolation will be drawn into the psychological tensions offered here. To a certain extent, the graphics remind me of classic PC graphics from the 90s and early 00s, whereby less emphasis is placed on detailed textures and models, but more on just giving a general overview and letting the thoughts fill the gaps .

This unique aesthetic was created by hand drawing art objects onto paper and then digitizing them using high quality scanning techniques. This has resulted in a really striking aesthetic that feels natural and strange on the other side at the same time. It is an effective technique which is used well here and which reinforces the depressing feeling of horror.

The game won’t be released until spring next year, but it’s already available on Steam and the somewhat modest system requirements have already been released:
