Geralt von Riva is probably the first one that comes to mind when you hear The Witcher – no wonder he is the protagonist of the books, the games and the series – a powerful sorcerer. But how did sorcerers actually come about? Who was the first? Netflix would like to tell you soon with another series from the “Witcher” universe.
Netflix surprisingly announced a new series. The Witcher: Blood Origin is a six-part project that takes place around 1,200 years before The Witcher events. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Declan de Barra have been commissioned with the production, but “The Witcher” author Andrzej Sapkowski is also on board as a creative consultant.
The “The Witcher” franchise has grown huge.
Blood Origin focuses on the world of the elves
The Witcher: Blood Origin is said to be set 1,200 years before the events of “The Witcher” when the spheres connected – the cataclystic event that caused monsters and magic to escape. The story focuses on the world of the elves before humans showed up and started destroying everything.
Declan de Barra told Forbes about the series as follows:
“I’ve always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations, how science, discovery, and culture flourished just before that fall. How much of the knowledge is lost forever in such a short time, often reinforced by colonization and rewriting of history. Only fragments of the true history of a civilization remain. The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell the story of the elven civilization before its demise and, above all, reveal the forgotten story of the very first sorcerer. ”
It is not yet known when the series will start. We will keep you up to date.
