Novelties VOD 30/20: 'Damn', fantasy of papier mache 'made in' Netflix

VOD news brings you the best releases of the week on Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime Video … AND Damn he wears it, as so many other times, by mere discard. And then there is the Megalodon, already immersed in the main video on demand platforms for summer refreshment.

Netflix

Netflix takes the first position in our list of news with Damn because the competition does not make much effort either, and given a choice, it is better to frugal amusement from the pile in hand, than intellectual eretism flying. That, a lot of ‘original’ filler and a few little movies of which most will ring a bell, is what awaits you this week in the big N of VOD.

Damn

Damn It is the new medieval fantasy series from Netflix and yes, it is pure stone cardboard. It tells of the origins of the Lady of the Lake, Celtic mythology rather than Saxon, but Arthurian mythology in any case, reimagined for the occasion by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler, ultimately responsible for this television adaptation. That is to say, they invent everything that came before the times of King Arthur – as others did with the legend that we all know – and in a modern key, that is, with an empowered female protagonist, a black Arthur, a reluctant Uter Pendragon, a drunk Merlin …

But don’t you care about any of this, because Damn It doesn’t even come out as seen in The witcher. Stays closer to The Shannara Chronicles And with that I tell you everything: diverse but mediocre cast, full of what seems more models than actors, the same story as always, decent production, but to which you are continually seeing the seams … Damn is the luck of the fans of this type of content, because things like The Lord of the rings or Game of Thrones they only happen very occasionally.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video stays for another week with just enough, which means that it barely adds a quarantine of titles to the catalog and, yes, it premieres a couple of exclusive series, although not very striking.

The candidate

Of the original series that Prime Video premieres this week, there was a choice between an Indian and a Mexican one, so for the outstanding content we stayed with the Hispanic one, which also has an international cast in which James Purefoy stands out. The candidate narrates in a tone of thriller Political tensions between espionage, organized crime and the country’s own politics. All a hotbed.
