The first mid-range OnePlus since the OnePlus X.
Four years had passed since the last time Oneplus it entered the territory of the middle range. It was with the OnePlus X, a mobile phone that, despite being able to fall in love with thousands of users, was discontinued and ended up in the trunk of the memories of the Chinese brand. Now, the company wants to repeat the move with a new series of phones that is born today with the OnePlus Nord.
The Nord is the third mobile launched by OnePlus in 2020, after the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. However, we are talking about a device that arrives to be located in the mid-premium range and try to conquer the public that the price escalation within the brand’s catalog had pushed into the arms of other firms.

Smooth screen and new design
This time, OnePlus leaves aside the design lines that it had been using since the arrival of the OnePlus 6 and that have evolved to culminate in the OnePlus 8 Pro, and instead decides to bet on one not so characteristic appearance, somewhat more similar to that of other models available on the market.
Thus, the OnePlus Nord arrives built with two glass panels front and rear, surrounded by a plastic edge, material that the firm did not use to build one of its phones from the OnePlus 2. In this case, yes, there is no trace of IP certification that supports the water resistance of the device.
The back, protected by glass Gorilla Glass 5, houses only the brand logo and the camera module arranged vertically in the upper left. For its part, the front is occupied almost entirely by a 6.44-inch screen surrounded by narrow margins, with an oval-shaped hole that houses not one, but two cameras for selfies.
On the sides we find the already classic additions of OnePlus mobiles: power buttons and volume control, the Alert Slider and the USB Type-C port next to the speaker and microphone. As usual, no 3.5mm headphone port.
The screen of the device aspires to be one of its strengths. It’s about a AMOLED panel with Full HD + resolution, which stands out for its 90 Hz refresh rate and for having an optical fingerprint reader integrated into the panel itself. The brand itself claims that it is a screen very similar to what we could find in the OnePlus 7T launched last year.
Snapdragon heart with 5G
The Nord is a unique device for many reasons, one of them being the first mobile in OnePlus history not to include a Snapdragon 800 series processor. Even the OnePlus 8 had a SoC of said series.
To give life to its new content price model, the Chinese brand is committed to Snapdragon 765G platform with eight cores and seven nanometers, equipped with the Adreno 620 GPU. According to the brand, it is the first chip in this series capable of offering an experience in accordance with the ideals of OnePlus, even more so when accompanied by 8 or 12 GB of RAM as it is in this OnePlus Nord.
Regarding storage configurations, it is possible to choose between 128 or 256 GB UFS 2.1, in none of the cases expandable by microSD. Your battery stays in correct ones 4,115 mAh capacity, although what is really interesting in this regard is the inclusion of the fast charging system Warp Charge 30T, the same present in the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. In this case, yes, wireless charging is not part of the data sheet of the telephone.
Another feature inherited from the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro is software: This OnePlus Nord breathes the same oxygen as its older siblings. Specifically the OxygenOS version 10.5 based on Android 10, and equipped with functions such as “zen mode”, a renewed launcher with access to Google Discover from the home screen and, according to the brand, close to 300 optimizations different to ensure the fastest and smoothest operation possible.
In terms of support, OnePlus notes that Nord will receive system updates for two years, and security patches for an extra year.
How many cameras are too many cameras?
Six These are the photographic sensors that make up the OnePlus Nord’s camera system: four are located at the rear, and two at the front.
Starting from the back, we find a 48-pixel Sony IMX586 sensor with f / 1.75 aperture –The same that the brand has been using for years on some of its phones, including the OnePlus 8–, which is supported by a 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor with a field of view of 105 degrees.
Unfortunately for lovers of optical zoom, OnePlus has decided not to include a “telephoto” in this device. Instead, the brand completes the main photographic system with the already classic sensors. macro and depth, 5 and 2 megapixels respectively.
On the front, we do find progress compared to the previous models of the brand in terms of versatility. Now, in addition to the main sensor – which this time becomes 32 megapixel resolution, we found an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera designed to capture selfies group. An interesting feature related to this sensor is the camera’s ability to activate ultra wide sensor automatically when detecting that there are several people within the scene to capture.
Its capabilities in terms of video are not very different from other mobiles of its level: the phone is capable of record 4K video at 30 FPS, although it plays with the advantage of having a hybrid stabilization system It combines OIS + EIS, a feature not too common in devices of this price.
