Orange Spain Q2 2020 results: income, benefits and customers

Orange Spain has recorded revenues of 2,503 million euros in the first half of 2020. This represents 4.6% less than in the same period of the previous year. In the second quarter, the drop in revenue was 6.8%. Profitability has suffered in the same sense with a EBITDAal of 728 million in the total for the semester, 7.5% less than in the same period of the previous year.

As of June 30, 2020, Orange has 19,829,000 clients, of which 15,863,000 are from mobile services and 3,966,000 from fixed broadband. On Orange TV, subscribers already reach 672,000 at the end of the first half. The wholesale market continues to be important for the French with a growth of 10.4% in the last quarter, up to 229 million euros.

The deployment of fiber continues to be a priority for the operator, which maintains its goal of reaching 16 million households with Orange FTTH technology at the end of this year, but which has also committed to reaching the 18 million homes in the next 3 years. Only Movistar has more past fiber in Spain and in Europe.

Strategy with Orange, Jazztel, Amena, República Móvil and Simyo

In the presentation of the results, the French operator has pointed out that it has proposals with all its brands to reach all customer segments. Orange becomes the only alternative operator with all the premium services among which the pay soccer on television.

Jazztel seeks to position itself in the segment with the best value for money. His new proposal, which comes into force on August 3, has 2 rates below 40 euros. Finally, Amena, Mobile Republic, and soon, Simyo, they seek to offer the cheapest price without giving up the best connectivity and quality of the Orange network.

5G later this year 2020

Although I had always been cautious with the release date of 5G and hoped to start doing so in 2021 or 2022 when everything was more defined, the truth is that the demand for this technology is greater than Orange expected. For this reason, the operator will launch 5G in Spain. this same 2020Although they won’t give more details until the end of the summer.

We must bear in mind that it must still auction the 700 MHz band, considered a key to the deployment of 5G. All this will be known also after the summer, at which time plans related to this technology will begin to accelerate.
