EMUI 10 has been a success. Either because of the curiosity of users to see how an operating system based on an unlicensed version of Android works or because of the number of functions and tricks that we find in the Huawei operating system. With this background, it is not surprising that EMUI 11 is generating so much expectation.

To date, Huawei says EMUI 10 runs on more than 50 million devices worldwide, making it one of the most widely used layers of customization globally. The US government’s obligation to Google to stop cooperating with the brand has led the Chinese firm to want to propose EMUI as a direct alternative to Android and iOS, but for the moment, it depends on the Google operating system to exist and will continue to do so with EMUI 11, based on Android 11.

Possible filing date

Huawei presented its latest EMUI 10 skin at its 2019 HDC (Huawei developers Conference) event held in August last year, replacing the previous EMUI 9, based on Android Pie, which premiered at the 2018 IFA in order to star in the Huawei Mate 20.

With this panorama, the logical thing is to think that EMUI 11 would be presented next month but this year we must take into account two factors: the war between the US and China and the global pandemic that is affecting the mobile phone industry as well as many others.

The brand has stated that the operating system will see the light in the third quarter of 2020 but there is no specific date beyond the words of Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei Consumer Business Software. This leaves September as the most likely date for EMUI 11 presentation. What is clear is that the operating system will accompany the Huawei Mate 40 in its presentation, also without a date but that they should see the light at the end, precisely, of September.

With what news?

App Gallery and Petal Search would once again be the nerve center of Huawei’s operating system, making users forget the absence of the Play Store and Google apps in the best way possible. But the search for apps is not the only novelty proposed for the new EMUI. There is also talk of a renewed gesture system to use the phone more comfortably as well as the possibility of enjoying new functions such as native screen recording or greater control over app notifications.
