7Sports, the ProSiebenSat.1 Group’s umbrella brand for sports business, has secured long-term exclusive rights to Formula E.

Formula E is the future of motorsport, not only Stefan Zant, the managing director of 7Sports, sees it that way. The ProSieben umbrella brand for sports business combines the entire digital sports portfolio of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group. Now the new cooperation with the ABB FIA Formula E Championship secures the media group exclusive broadcasting rights and brings Formula E to free TV.

From January 2021, the Formula E races held on inner-city circuits will be shown on free TV as well as online live and exclusively on Sat.1. Next year, however, the free TV won’t end immediately: 7Sports and Formula E have reached a long-term agreement – not least because both benefit from it: With its new strategy, 7Sports not only wants to make e-mobility better known, but also new rights and develop sustainable topics in the long term. As a private broadcaster, however, the ProSiebenSat.1 Group also see the aspect of potential advertising partners in a sustainable environment as attractive.

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship hopes to reach as broad a German audience as possible by broadcasting the races on free TV. As a link between motorsport and pioneering technologies, Formula E wants to do its part to protect the climate by accelerating the development of electric vehicles.
