Qualcomm introduces Snapdragon 865+

Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 865+ 5G Mobile Platform, a successor to the flagship Snapdragon 865. Snapdragon 865+ offers improved performance for the next generation of 5G smartphones. The main target group are gamers.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ 5G Mobile Platform should bring significant improvements in all areas for 5G smartphones. It offers additional mobile functions such as upgradeable GPU drivers, desktop forward rendering and speeds of up to 144 fps, as well as artificial intelligence (AI). It is noteworthy that the new chip officially breaks the 3 GHz frequency threshold for the first time.

Game Color 2.0, which enables completely new color effects, Adreno HDR Fast Blend for fast scene playback and desktop forward rendering are particularly interesting for gamers.

According to Qualcomm, the clock rate of the CPU prime core has been increased by 10 percent, while the graphics rendering on the Adreno 650 GPU is also 10 percent faster than the previous generation. In addition, the Snapdragon 865+ features Qualcomm’s new FastConnect 6900 mobile connectivity system for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which enables speeds of up to 3.6 Gbps.

“As we work to scale 5G, we continue to invest in our premium-class mobile platforms, the 8-series, to expand performance limits and energy efficiency and enable the next generation of camera, AI, and gaming experiences,” said Alex Katouzian, SVP and GM of Mobile at Qualcomm. “Building on the success of the Snapdragon 865, the new Snapdragon 865+ will offer improved performance for the next wave of flagship smartphones.”

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 865+ will power Asus’ upcoming ROG Phone 3 gaming smartphone. Also Lenovo is to equip a smartphone from the Legion series with the new SoC.
