The incredibly popular Roblox has reached another important milestone. Roblox Corporation announced today that the global platform game creation platform now attracts an astonishing 150 million active users every month.
At the sixth annual Roblox developer conference, held digitally this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the company also announced that in-game developers are now cashing in serious money. 2020 earnings are estimated to be over $ 250 million. The number eclipses the $ 110 million in 2019.
As founder and CEO of Roblox, David Baszucki explains:
“The performance of our developer community has exceeded even our highest expectations. I am incredibly impressed with the unique and creative experiences that are made on the Roblox platform. Our focus is to provide developers with the tools and resources they need to realize their vision, build bigger, more complex, and more realistic experiences, and build the metaverse together. “
Roblox developers earn by selling in-game products, games, and immersive digital experiences with the premium payouts introduced by Roblox 2020, which ensure that developers are paid in proportion to the exposure time of premium Roblox subscribers. According to Roblox Corporation, developers earned $ 2 million in June 2020 alone.
Roblox Corporation has selected a few of these in-game products that have performed particularly well this year:
- “Choose me! Now has over 10 billion games and surpassed 1.6 million concurrent users in the game earlier this year.
- Piggy was launched in January 2020 and has nearly 5 billion visits in just over six months.
- During a live event in April 2020, Jailbreak exceeded 500,000 concurrent users.
- There are now 345,000 developers on the platform who monetize their games.
- Over 50% of the Robux editions in the catalog are now spent on UGC items, less than 12 months after the launch of the UGC catalog program. “
A talent marketplace to be launched later this year should further encourage collaboration between community members and developers to broaden Roblox’s range of experience. In addition, Roblox introduces a range of new developer-oriented tools and platform services that complement the tools for cloud collaboration that were well received last year. This includes “the ability to give team members / contractors / employees permission to work on a specific part of a game” and automatic machine translation to offer a wide range of localization and language options.
Roblox Corporation also announced a new company called Developer Events to encourage participation and creation of community events. The tool will be released later this summer and will allow developers to run both virtual and personal events.
Finally, Roblox also unveiled a new partnership with the independent electronic music label, Monstercat. Over fifty tracks covering a wide range of genres (EDM genres including Drum & Bass, Synthwave, Electro, Chillout, Electronic, Breaks, Future Bass) are now available to developers to add more in the future.
