In the Corona crisis, significantly more TVs were bought in Germany in the past few months.
In the first half of the year, sales rose five percent year-on-year to 3.2 million TV sets, as the industry association gfu announced on Tuesday. The decisive factor for this was the sale after the lockdown ended in the spring, said gfu supervisory board chairman Hans-Joachim Kamp. Sales jumped 37 percent in May and 21 percent in June.
In contrast, 1.5 percent fewer TV sets were sold in the first half of last year.
Trend towards premium television
All device classes larger than 50 inches (127 cm) show double-digit increases in the first half of 2020 both in terms of quantities and sales. The largest increase in the number of pieces
with 118 percent, the TVs with a screen size larger than 70 inches (178 cm) are followed, followed by
from the 50 to 54 inch (127 to 137 cm) class with 69 percent. The size segments 55 to
59 inches (140 to 150 cm) and 60 to 69 inches (152 to 175 cm) are up 23 and 30 percent in
the number grew.
The OLED TV sets also show double-digit growth rates in sales and quantity:
