presented a new generation of its Galaxy Note smartphones at its unpacked event, as expected. Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra primarily offer more powerful processors and cameras than their predecessors and also a revised S-Pen input pen. The Korean company also launched its third foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
The Galaxy Note 20 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+. In some regions, probably also in this country, Samsung relies on the in-house Exynos 990. Both SoCs are manufactured in a 7-nanometer process, but the Qualcomm chip is said to have better performance.
With the Note 20, Samsung provides the processor with 8 GB of RAM and either 128 or 256 GB of memory that cannot be expanded. Only the Note 20 Ultra has a hybrid SIM slot, which can also accommodate a microSD card up to 1 TB in size instead of a second SIM card. The 5G version of the Note 20 Ultra also comes with 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal memory.
The display of the Note 20 Ultra is also significantly better equipped than that of its smaller brother. Samsung limits QHD resolution and a refresh rate of 120 MHz to the more expensive model. The size difference is small: The screen of the Note 20 Ultra is 6.9 inches, that of the Note 20 6.7 inches.
The triple camera system of the Note 20 consists of a 12-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens and an aperture of F1.8, an ultra-wide-angle camera with also 12 megapixels and an aperture of F2.2, and a telephoto lens with a 64-megapixel behind it Sensor hides. By reducing the resolution of the telephoto camera, Samsung achieves the triple hybrid zoom known from the S20, which is digitally referred to as the 30x Super Resolution Zoom – but then with a visible loss of quality.
The Note 20 Ultra takes pictures with the wide-angle camera with 108 megapixels known from the S20. The ultra-wide-angle camera, on the other hand, corresponds to that of the Note 20. For distant objects, however, another 12-megapixel camera is responsible, which Samsung has given a real telephoto lens with a field of view of 20 degrees. Samsung promises an optical 5x zoom. In addition, the triple camera system of the Note 20 Ultra is accompanied by a laser autofocus sensor.
The Note 20 Ultra’s 77.2 by 164.8 millimeter case houses a 4500 mAh battery. The 75.2 by 161.6 millimeter housing of the Note 20, which is a touch thicker at 8.3 millimeters, holds a power storage device with a capacity of 4300 mAh. Both devices support Fast Charging 2.0.
With the S Pen, the developers have reduced the latency and increased the precision of the pen inputs. Compared to the Note 10, it should be possible to write with the new S Pen like with a real pen.
In Germany, Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra will be available from August 21. Samsung requires at least 925 euros for the Note 20 and 1023 euros for the 5G version. With the Note 20 Ultra 5G, depending on the size of the internal memory, 1266 or 1364 euros will be charged.
The Galaxy Z Fold has also received a successor. It now offers a 6.2-inch display on the front. The internal main display is 7.6 inches tall. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 also supports the new 5G cellular standard. Interested parties have to wait until September for the new foldable.
