SES will provide playout and IP distribution services for over 50 channels of the BBC under a multi-year contract.

The BBC Studios (BBCS) and its subsidiary UKTV have commissioned SES to manage the playout and distribution of over 50 linear channels and the associated video-on-demand services (VOD), SES announced today.

In the future, SES will offer playout, content processing, sales and VOD services and deliver BBCS and UKTV content to a network of subsidiaries worldwide and in the UK. These services are expected to be based on SES ‘European global delivery services, with the technical playout infrastructure provided by SES’ new Stockley Park facility in London and SES ‘Munich playout facility overseeing operations management.

BBCS is the BBC’s commercial production and distribution arm, creating over 2,500 hours of content each year. BBCS focuses on the international promotion of the creative talents of the BBC and Great Britain, distributes the content globally and is responsible for the brand image.

UKTV is a wholly owned subsidiary of BBCS. She has been at the forefront of British brand television with genres such as comedy, entertainment, natural history, facts and drama for over 25 years. The broadcaster supports British creativity and is committed to working with new and established authors, directors and programmers.

SES was awarded the multi-year contract after responding to a BBCS and UKTV call to tune its service offering to the performance, business and commercial needs of BBCS and UKTV. The new contract also builds on BBCS and UKTV’s desire for cloud innovations in the media industry.

“Our UK and global audiences and advertisers expect seamless, high-quality services to be delivered, and in the changing world of broadcasting, we need flexibility and responsiveness to meet the ever-changing audience demands. We believe that with SES we have found a partner who is committed to innovation and can continue to meet our business needs in the future, ”said Marcus Arthur, President UK, Ireland BBC Studios & CEO UKTV.

Steve Collar, CEO of SES: “Our approach to delivering the services in London and Munich is specifically designed so that broadcasters and manufacturing companies like BBCS and UKTV can focus on producing great content while we prepare, play and Take care of content delivery. This dual concept is fundamental to our success as it ensures that we always have fully secured content delivery services and will enable us to offer BBCS the highest quality of service. ”
