Sony has just announced the launch of the new Sony WH-1000XM4, the fourth generation of noise canceling wireless headband headphones from the manufacturer’s 1000X family. This latest model offers some improvements over its predecessors, the Sony WH-1000XM3, such as additional smart features, improvements in noise cancellation, motion detection, and slight design-level changes. Let’s see what the new wireless headphones from Sony offer us.
Smarter and with better noise cancellation
According to Sony, the new WH-1000XM4 headphones feature an even more efficient noise cancellation system than last year. They have two microphones in each earpiece and with the Dual Noise Sensor technology, which captures ambient noise and passes the data to the QN1 processor.
The WH-1000XM4 have a new Bluetooth Audio SoC (System on Chip) circuit It detects noise more than 700 times per second. Using a new algorithm, the QN1 processor applies noise cancellation processing in real time.
On the other hand, the Edge-AI DSEE Extreme It is able to more accurately reconstruct the audio lost during digital compression, thus providing higher audio quality. The Edge-AI system analyzes music in real time and is capable of recognizing instruments, musical genres, and individual elements of each song to restore the high-range sounds lost during compression for a more complete listening experience. To build this artificial intelligence system, Sony has worked with Sony Music Studios Tokyo collecting data on music, thus obtaining a real insight into how specific music signals are composed.
The new Sony WH-1000XM4 also offer an immersive audio experience through 360 Reality Audio system. This creates a personalized surround music environment that is perfectly optimized for each user thanks to the Sony Headphones Connect application.
To always try to offer the best sound, the WH-1000XM4 have the system Adaptive Sound. It intelligently detects where we are and what we are doing to adjust the ambient sound settings and deliver the best listening experience possible. In addition, over time, the Adaptive Sound control learns to recognize the places we visit most frequently, such as our favorite workplace, gym or restaurant, automatically adapting the sound in each situation.
By last, the new Sony WH-1000XM4 now know if we are wearing them. The headphones detect if they are being used and adapt playback accordingly to save battery power. They have a proximity sensor and two accelerometers with which they know if we have removed the headphones, pausing the music, or if we have put them on, resuming playback.
They also incorporate the new Precise Voice Pickup technology, which more optimally controls five of the headphone microphones and performs advanced audio signal processing to pick up voices more accurately in hands-free calls and Speak-to-Chat.
Price and availability
In short, the new Sony headphones come to try to improve on their predecessors, which were already quite good. They feature super-soft ear cushions that relieve pressure, distribute pressure evenly, and increase ear-to-cushion contact for a stable fit.
And finally, the new model can match two Bluetooth devices at the same time. Also, when a call comes in, the headphones will detect which device is ringing and connect to it automatically. We can also switch between devices manually, with a single touch.
The Sony WH-1000XM4 will be available later this summer in two colors: black and silver. Its official price is 380 euros.
