The ASUS ROG Phone 3 pushes the refresh rate of your screen to the limit.
The new ROG Phone 3 from ASUS is a mobile that takes the concept of smartphones for gamers. In it, ASUS has integrated a whole repertoire of leading specifications that make it one of the most powerful phones on the market, including an AMOLED screen with a 144Hz maximum refresh rate. Or, at least, that’s what we thought until now.
And it is that in the portal XDA-Developers, the new beast from ASUS hides a mode that allows you to increase the refresh rate of the panel to an incredible 160 Hz, a figure much higher than any other we have seen on a mobile phone – with the exception of the Sharp AQUOS ZERO 2, which does use interpolation techniques of frames to reach the 240 Hz figure.
How to activate the 160 Hz mode of the ASUS ROG Phone 3
As it was discovered by examining the software of the device, this includes a hidden option that allows you to activate the refresh rate of 160 Hz for the screen. This, of course, is not available to users by default, and to enable it it is necessary to use a computer with the ADB drivers installed, and later open a command console to execute the following instruction:
adb shell setprop debug.vendor.asus.fps.eng 1
Now, enough restart the phone and access the device’s display settings. Inside section Update frequency, in addition to the original options, one of 160 Hz which until then remained hidden. From XDA they affirm that the panel is capable of reaching 160 Hz without problems, and to verify it it is enough to use tools such as Testufo. They also mention that, for hide this option again just follow the same steps mentioned above, but executing the following command through ADB:
adb shell setprop debug.vendor.asus.fps.eng 0
The fact that it is a disabled and hidden option by default, to which ASUS did not even allude during the presentation of the phone, leads us to think that it is an unstable function, or that can greatly affect the performance or autonomy of the phone. Still, it’s worth knowing that it’s there for all those who want an extra fluency when it comes to playing.
