At Canon they have introduced a new family of EOS R cameras. The EOS R5 and R6 are here. Cameras that opt for the mirrorless or mirrorless system and the full frame to take full advantage of their small bodies and offer the highest possible image quality. In the case of EOS R6, which we will talk about in this article, it must be said that it is focused on amateur and semi-professional photographers. And it offers versatility and quality but without reaching the highest technical standards. A camera that seems ideal both for those who enjoy taking pictures of nature, sports and portraits in their spare time, as well as for those who record quality videos or even vlogs. We explain why.
This Canon camera records in 8K RAW and has 8-step stabilizer
A camera loaded with technology
The Canon EOS R6 arrives with the 20.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, which follows in the footsteps of the EOS-1D X Mark III camera in some of its features. This means having a range Automatic ISO of 100-102,400 to be able to take clean images in low light environments such as interior rooms. It is also an agile camera, since it allows taking pictures at a speed of 20 fps with the electronic shutter in complete silence. Very useful for nature photographs, where you do not want to scare the subject with the noise of this mechanism or need a quick capture. The same is true for sports photos in which you want to take a reflection of an action, gesture or quick detail. And all this with automatic exposure and autofocus values. With which it is clear that it is an agile camera for any type of user who has some notions about photography. But there is more.
Of course, although being a mirrorless camera allows you to have a smaller body, they have not left the opportunity to introduce a stabilization system inside it. Or how this technology is known IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization). A feature that corrects tremors in 5 axes, and that is surprising because it also works with the stabilization systems of the RS and EF lenses. In other words, this camera has 8-step image correction, taking care of movements to the left, right, up and down, forward and backward and rolling. So taking a blurry picture can be difficult. And be careful because this body image stabilization system is also applied to video recording, allowing better results recording freehand. That is why it is an interesting and versatile camera for photographers as well as for youtubers or video fans.
Quality image and very agile
This camera has a Dual Pixel CMOS AF II sensor, seen in other professional Canon cameras. Something that gives it great speed in focus, which Canon ensures 0.05 seconds. Although the interesting thing is that this EOS R6 enables AF in low light situations like -6.5 EV. So you don’t have to worry about low light or high contrast. The sensor takes care of everything.
It is also an agile camera by achieving shooting speeds of up to 20 fps with 6,071 selectable AF points. 12 fps if using the burst mechanical shutter. All this supported by the iTR AF X AF system, which has been trained with Artificial Intelligence to detect not only faces and eyes on which to focus. Now it also detects animals and objects and follows them to maintain this focus in both photo and video, even if the object moves erratically.
As for video, the sensor allows recording up to 4K UHD at a speed of 59.94 frames per second. And it increases to 119.88 fps if we reduce the resolution to Full HD. All this with different recording options such as 8-bit H.264 or 10-bit YCbCr 4: 2: 2 H.265 and Canon Log, so you can get more out of your recordings when editing them.
The Canon EOS R6 will arrive in stores in August. Its price is 3,000 euros if you choose only the body. There is a pack of more objective camera RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 with IS STM that amounts to 3,200 euros.
