We live in an atypical situation but from which some interesting initiatives also arise. We have had the opportunity to Chat virtually in a relaxed meeting with Jaume Pausas, Acer Marketing Manager in Spain, in which he has spoken to us about the PC market in Spain and about three models with a common link: a design that sets them apart from the rest. Are the Acer Swift 5, the desktop ConceptD 100 and the hybrid between laptop and tablet ConceptD 3 Ezel, with a screen that separates from the keyboard and rotates and is positioned in any position. These are some of the most interesting concepts that we have discussed.
First some interesting facts about the consumer PC market. The influence of the coronavirus is very noticeable, to the point that during the first half of this year the sales of laptops have grown 30% in Spain, according to data from Gfk. In contrast, the sale of desktop PCs has fallen 3%. Acer has made good use of the overall market momentum and its sales have grown 35% in laptops and 3% in the desktop market. But where sales have really gone up as the foam is in the gaming sector. No crisis, no ERTEs, nothing. During this same period sales have risen 65%, which is soon to be said. For the following quarter, expectations are that the market will grow above double digits again, but not at the same rate. Around 20%, also taking advantage of the back to school campaign.
Acer Swift 5: weight of a kilo, more than used space and good autonomy
We start this short review of some of the most attractive Acer proposals for the consumer field with the Acer Swift 5 from 2020. A renewal of this model that takes the concept of taking advantage of space to a new level. And this model has a 90% body-to-screen ratio, which has allowed the company to integrate a 14-inch screen in a smaller body.
The design of the Swift 5 also stands out for its weight, just a kilo, together with a thickness of a centimeter and a half. A milestone that makes it one of the benchmarks in ultraportables. This year’s edition is a clear commitment to color, with two settings in green and gold. But perhaps the aspect that has caught my attention the most is that a graphics card has not been given up, one of the specifications that always falls first when it comes to reducing spaces. The Swift 5 can integrate a dedicated graphics card NVIDIA GeForce MX350And it is not lacking in memory either: up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB in PCie SSD format.
The maximum autonomy is 12 hours, although it will depend on the battery configuration with which you end up arriving in Spain (it could be around 10 hours if you have a thinner battery). To start seeing it in Spanish stores you will have to wait until September, its part price of 1,100 euros.
Acer ConceptD 100: a quiet and stylish desktop for creators
The range Acer ConceptD is made up of teams highly focused on creative and graphic developers. Professionals who opted for gaming models in order to have some of the necessary characteristics to run design applications, such as good power and above all, good graphics. The Taiwanese company saw a niche market here to develop equipment that combines performance with great care and quiet operation. Proof of this is the Acer ConceptD 100, a desktop PC in a compact format.
This model It combines white with a grid that makes its interior transparent and gives it a very differential touch. In fact, it has been specially treated to ensure that this white color will not degrade over time to a more yellowish hue. Inside we find an Intel Core i5 processor along with the option of a dedicated graphics card NVIDIA Quadro P260. But what the Taiwanese company wanted to highlight the most is the low maximum noise level of this tower: just 40 decibels. One way to ensure that the creative can work without the hassle of having to listen to fan noise. He Acer ConceptD 100 is now available in stores for a starting price of 800 euros.
Acer ConceptD 3 Ezel: laptop and tablet united in a groundbreaking design
The last of the models we had the opportunity to talk about was the Acer ConceptD 3 Ezel. A hybrid team that takes versatility to a new level. The big news is that its touchscreen can be detached from the rear hinge and rotated. An idea similar to what you can get with the book type cover of a tablet, but with the advantage that in this case the screen stays in any position. The panel is capable of holding up to 4,000 points of precision from the stylus included with the notebook. This pen has its own charging slot in which it hides when we are not using it.
This model arrives in two 14 and 15.6-inch screen formats, and takes autonomy for an impressive 18 hours (curiously, in the case of the largest panel size configuration). Incidentally, it also incorporates a dedicated graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti to ensure good performance in CAD programs. In the case of the Acer ConceptD 3 Ezel we will also have to wait a little longer, until the end of August, for it to reach Spanish stores. its price will start from 1,700 euros.
