Prior to the release of TROY: Total War Saga next month, developer Creative Assembly released a development update that lists the changes he’s been working on behind the scenes since the game was first announced after receiving feedback from the community had received.
“We have made some changes since Troja’s big announcement, so we considered why we shouldn’t look at some of them as the development team continues to prepare.”
A newly released video guides potential players through changes and offers another look at the latest entry in the longstanding Total War formula.
The changes don’t change the formula drastically. Instead, they focus on improvements in quality of life, game mechanics and cosmetics. Creative Assembly has improved the way units hold spears for more realism. Unit weight symbols (light, medium and heavy) are now displayed in menus and when selecting unit groups. Certain units can no longer be flanked, while ranged units can now flank enemies if the video gives fairly satisfactory results. The Achilles hero was also rebalanced, which highlights the video in a head-to-head battle with lots of shield battles and spear blows.
Arrow tracks can now be set from barely perceptible to a barrage that dominates the game screen. Adjusting the trails will likely improve performance for those with lower builds. In the same way, the clouds now appear thinner than in previous builds.
Troy: A Total War Saga will be released on August 13th as a timed exclusive in the Epic Games Store on PC. Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA plan to release a Steam version of Troy: A Total War Saga in summer 2021.
The game can be used free of charge in the Epic store for the first 24 hours after launch. As far as we can tell, there are no conditions attached and the game really is yours as long as you claim it within the allotted time frame.
Here is the official description to whet your appetite before launch:
“A new Total War Saga game: TROY is the first entry in the award-winning series that focuses on the legendary 20-year conflict between the kingdoms of Troy and Mycenaean Greece, now known as the Trojan War, the Bronze Age Mediterranean.
TROY combines the unique blend of great turn-based empire management and spectacular real-time battles from Total War and explores this epic conflict from both a Greek and a Trojan perspective. The layers of myths and legends are peeled back to reveal the realities that may have inspired them.
Play as one of eight famous heroes and fight to conquer or protect the legendary kingdom of Troy. “
