Our Android mobile can serve much more than it seems. Little by little, Google is developing tools that help us in day-to-day tasks, designed even to make life easier for people with problems, such as hearing problems. For that and much more automatic transcription can be used, which allows you to convert into text and in real time, everything that your mobile phone captures through the microphone.
Although Google has designed voice transcription for deaf or hard of hearing people, it can be an excellent tool when someone cannot write, being able to put everything they say with their voice into text. Google Instant Transcription comes installed by default on Google Pixels and other phones, but very possibly it will be natively integrated into more models in future versions of the Google operating system. Other Android devices can have this function, after downloading from Google Play.
How to activate the function
On mobiles with the integrated function
As we say, Pixels and other Android phones have this function natively, so we only have to proceed with its activation. For this we touch on “Settings” and go to the “Accessibility” settings. Then we touch on “Instant transcription” and we tap on “Use service”. Then we accept the permissions and click on “Accept”. Now the mobile will begin to show any conversation on the screen and in the form of text.
On mobiles without the integrated function
In these cases we will have to download the tool from Google Play. Once downloaded and activated, just click on the application. From that moment and always keeping the microphone close to us, the person, or the audio source that we want to capture, the transcript will begin to appear on the screen. In both cases, it is necessary that we have an active Internet connection.
Tips for using instant transcription
In order to achieve greater precision, Google itself recommends using external microphones, such as USB microphones, Bluetooth or wired headphones. In addition, it is recommended to consult the volume and noise indicator to know if we are in a debt environment to make transcripts.
Change the language
It is a fundamental adjustment. The function will show as the main language that we have on our mobile, but we can easily modify it and alternate it during transcriptions. It is done from Settings and entering “More Settings” Now we will touch on the main language among the more than 80 available of all the world. Also, a secondary language can be set in the same menu. To quickly change languages while using the transcript, just tap on the language and they will alternate between one and the other.
The tool may not detect some rarer concrete words, phrases, or ways of expressing yourself. For example and as we see in the example above, if we want to say “MobileZone” it is possible that the transcription separates the words and throws us “mobile area”. In this case we can go back to Settings and then click on “More Settings”. Then we played on “Custom Words” and finally in «Add word»
Copy and paste the text
One of the most interesting functions of the tool is to be able copy and paste the text of the transcript. To do we will have to hold down the text and then select “Copy” or “Select transcript”.
For remove the content that hinders us from the screen, we can slide our finger up or return to the transcript by sliding it down.
It can be done a search in conversation, by touching the Settings menu and clicking on “Search in the transcript”. Then we enter the search term and touch a result to see it in context.
It can be bigger or smaller depending on our visual needs. For adjust text size we go to Settings and tap on the slider, where we will see a preview of the changes before accepting.
