There are different options when it comes to silencing WhatsApp groups or contacts, being able to do it for 8 hours, a week or 1 year. This last option is used by many as an alternative to silence forever, although it really requires “renewing” that action every year to keep it going. In fact, there are people who are surprised at the notifications that start to come from groups that they had silenced and it is precisely because it has happened more than 365 days. Since everyone uses that option to forget about notifications from those groups or contacts, WhatsApp plans to change it in its next versions for an option to mute forever.
WhatsApp has just released a new beta version for Android through the Google Play Beta Program. This is version 184.108.40.206 and it hides a substantial change of a function that we use often. In this case, we do not have new information about the support for various accounts, but that is something that we know will come sooner rather than later and that we will even be able to enjoy throughout the month of August.
The first thing we do when they put us in a group is usually to silence notifications for 1 year. This would give for a longer reflection, but the truth is that it has become commonplace for any WhatsApp user. The company is aware of this and has planned to modify the options offered to us by mute groups or contacts.
In this case, the beta version that has just been released change the option from “1 year” to “Always”. That is, we can silence a group so that it never shows us notifications and we will not have to renew that setting when 365 days have passed. This feature is in development and could be released in the following versions.
As a reminder, to silence someone we have these options:
- Open the WhatsApp application
- Go to the chat window
- Tap and hold the conversation with the person you want to mute
- Tap the speaker icon in the upper right corner
- Tap on the speaker
- Choose the time you want to silence it
- Eight hours
- One week
- One year (Always in future versions)
- Decide whether or not you want to show notifications
- Press OK to confirm
We can also mute conversations or contacts on WhatsApp from the chat itself if we are already talking to that person. To do this, we will click on the three points in the upper right corner and on the option “Silence notifications”. Later we will follow the steps from number 6 of the previous list.
