It is very likely that 2020 will go down in history as a special year. The challenges of the global pandemic not only pose major challenges for states, their societies and economic systems – companies in particular have faced and still face organizational, cultural and technological hurdles with their employees.
It is all the more impressive that in the fifth year of its existence, 83 applications for the DIGITAL LEADER AWARD, which IDG media COMPUTERWOCHE and CIO-Magazin initiated together with NTT Germany, were received. The submitted stories span / encompass the entire spectrum with a view to company sizes (from the DAX group to the startup) and industries (from agriculture to the insurance industry), as well as with regard to the type of stories told. It includes exciting strategic transformations, unique technology projects, profound cultural change and stories from the non-profit sector that can enrich all of our lives.
In order to be able to do justice to all these fantastic stories, the organizers IDG Germany and NTT Germany have decided to give the winners, their stories and the teams behind them their deserved wages as part of a virtual experience – visibility in German-speaking Digital community and trophies.

While behind the scenes the expert jury of the DIGITAL LEADER AWARD is already critically reviewing the submissions of our applicants: inside, the organizers were able to Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus, Hessian Minister of State for Digital, won as patron of the competition – originally the award ceremony was supposed to take place as a face-to-face event in Darmstadt and thus in front of the Minister of State’s doorstep.

For the editor in charge of the competition, who is also the author of these lines, it became clear in contact with the applicants: inside: it is a special year – not only because the applicants wanted to tell their stories despite all the challenges ( some applications were created, for example, in short-time work), but also because the quality of the stories has reached an unprecedented level.
They show that digitization and the associated cultural, strategic and also individual changes are arriving at the core of the company not least due to the express transformation brought about by natural force in recent months.
